Being a Kanban University trainer for almost 10 years, I’ve taught more than 1700 students, quite a group. I’ve asked this question often, so I’ve decided to reply with this blog post. The question is which of the Flight Levels courses would be relevant/interesting for me if I was at <some course> from Kanban University…

Mapping in between Flight Levels Academy and Kanban University

So the question is about mapping two curriculums to each other. While being both an Accredited Kanban Trainer (AKT by KU) and Flight Levels Guide (FLG) – I am in a perfect position to answer this question. So, let’s go.

  1. You’ve visited Team Kanban Practitioner (TKP) class and only that.
All of the courses from the Flight Levels Academy lineup are still relevant for you, from my perspective. There is some intersection of concepts covered with Flight Level 2 Design (FL2D), but TKP is a very much introductory course, while FL2D is way deeper.
  2. You have Kanban Management Professional (KMP) credential, which means you’ve visited Kanban System Design (KSD) course and Kanban Systems Improvements (KSI) course.
All of the courses from the Flight Levels Academy lineup are still relevant for you apart from Flight Level 2 Design (FL2D) Well, there are still some aspects of FL2D that are not covered in KSD+KSI, but a majority of stuff should not be new to you. But everything else is very much relevant. That is FL3D, FLSA, and FLCL!
And this is the only real intersection that I can see. See below for more info, but this is about it!
  3. You have Kanban Coaching Professional (KCP) credential, which means you have a KMP credential, and visited Kanban Maturity Model (KMM) course and Kanban Coaching (KC) course (and starting from May 2023, passed an exam).
The resolution for you is the same as above – FL2D has covered a lot already (crossing with KMP), but everything else is still very relevant! Yes, from names it looks like there should be a lot of crossings between two coaching classes, but there are not as approaches are quite different!
  4. Students of the Fit for Purpose (F4P) course should also not be worried – there is no risk for them of any intersections. F4P is about strategic marketing and positioning, which is not part of the FLA curriculum.

Hope that helps! If you still have any questions left, please, feel free to get in touch or book a seat in public or arrange a private class for all classes mentioned in this blog.
